AFCisco SD-WAN Cloud Interconnect
Cisco SD-WAN Cloud Interconnect Overview
Starting from Cisco vManage 20.5, you can deploy Cisco SD-WAN Edge devices within the SDCI provider network and establish connectivity from these devices to remote sites through the Cisco SD-WAN fabric. These Cisco SD-WAN edge devices deployed within the SDCI network serve as Interconnect Gateways as they can connect to other Cisco SD-WAN Edge devices within the SDCI provider network or private and public clouds.
The software-defined interconnects link branch locations, or link branch locations to cloud service providers. The interconnects provide dedicated private Layer 2 connectivity with SLA-backed assured performance bandwidth and 99.999% availability. Short haul interconnects link branch locations or a branch location and a cloud OnRamp in the same region. Long haul interconnects link branch locations in different regions, or a branch location in one region to a cloud OnRamp in another region.
Cisco vManage provides a single UI portal through which you can instantiate the edge device in the SDCI fabric and create the software-defined interconnects.
Cisco vManage currently supports two options for cloud interconnects, and these are:
-
Cisco SD-WAN Cloud Interconnect with Megaport
-
Cisco SD-WAN Cloud Interconnect with Equinix
Megaport Service Interoduction
SDCI providers come in two categories:
-
Managed Service Providers (MSPs): deliver network, application, infrastructure, and security services in their own hosted data center or a third-party data center. They also offer WAN connectivity from the client site to the provider node without the requirement for colocation presence.
-
Non-Managed Service Providers (non-MSPs): help businesses connect to many resources and partners more flexibly. In the case of Megaport’s Network as a Service platform, Points of Presences (PoPs) are available in numerous data centers around the world, creating a network fabric that’s global, private, and vendor-neutral. So, while MSPs might run their own data center or partner with a third-party data center, a non-MSP can help businesses connect to the cloud from many more touchpoints. In Megaport’s case, you have access to over 100 different data center operators, all with the ease of a point-and-click portal.
This integration provides the following services:
-
Smart Cloud Connectivity Solutions: You can perform cloud services better by building network architecture on a foundation of dedicated connectivity.
-
Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE) integration into Cisco SD-WAN can improve network performance by reducing reliance on the public internet. Also, it can help accelerate your SASE objectives and remove obstacles for Cisco SD-WAN modernization and edge security.
-
Megaport Cloud Router (MCR): You can connect to the critical cloud and managed services you need from any virtual routing zones without hardware. MCR allows you to route data to and between various providers and platforms without hair pinning traffic back to a data center or your on-premises environment.
-
Interconnection between data centers: you can connect between endpoints across metros, countries, and continents.
-
Internet Exchange peering: gives you access to a shared distributed high-speed switching infrastructure that is reliable and provides low-latency interconnection. Instantly share and source traffic across local and international networks, scale your business to new markets, and have greater control over your interconnection.
Equinix Services Introduction
Through Cisco vManage, you can deploy virtual network function (VNF) devices, such as Cisco Cloud Services Routers, on Network Edge. Cisco SD-WAN Cloud Interconnect configures these VNF devices, then dynamically sets up Equinix Fabric interconnections, providing a seamless experience for the user. You can perform two key use case scenarios: site-to-site and site-to-cloud deployments.
