Configure Configlets & Property Sets

Configlets Overview

Configlets is a feature that enables you to add configuration to your devices that Juniper Apstra does not automatically configure for you. For example, Juniper Apstra does not natively handle Network Time Protocol (NTP) and class-of-service (CoS) configuration.

Rather than configuring these features directly on the device, you can use configlets to have Juniper Apstra push these chunks of configuration out to your devices. You must configure configlets using the vendor-specific CLI commands.

Configlet Modeling

The below figure shows the vendor-specific syntax used in configlets. Notice that with certain vendors, you have to create a negation template so that Apstra can delete a configlet when needed.

Configlet Rendering

Without the use of configlets, Juniper Apstra deploys the configuration on the managed devices as per the Apstra reference design. When you use configlets, you must make a choice of a Section that can be SYSTEM TOP , INTERFACE , Top Level , SYSTEM , FILE, or FRR .

The choices that are available to you depend on the Config Style choice (vendor) that you make. Thefigure shows the Section choices that are available when you are creating a configlet for a Cisco device. Notice that FRR is not available for a Cisco device.

A primary factor in determining which Section to choose has to do with the order in which Apstra applies a configlet to a device's configuration.
