Creating Logical Devices & Device Profile

Creating Logical Devices

In this module, we will create a custom logical device. Our logical device will comprise 12 10-Gbps ports. It will have two port groups. Remember, port groups define a set of ports that attach to certain types of remote devices (superspine, spine, leaf, generic system, and so on) at a specific speed.

In our example, we will assign two ports to the Spine port group, which means that we expect two ports to be reserved and used to attach to remote spine devices. We will also assign 10 ports to the Generic port group, which means that we expect 10 ports to be reserved and used to attach to generic systems. Creating Logical Devices

Creating a Logical Device

To create a logical device, navigate to Devices > Logical Devices and click Create Logical Devices . Juniper Apstra software will present you with the Create Logical Device window, which is where you will build your custom logical device.

Number of Ports

For every logical device, you must specify the name and the number of ports. Slide the corner of the panel diagram to adjust the number of ports to fit your needs.

Spine Port Group

To create the Spine port group, set the number of ports and the speed for those ports (all ports in a port group will be at the same speed). If you need some interfaces to be connected to the same type of devices as other ports, yet they must run at a different speed, you just need to create another port group with a different speed setting.
